Is Waze a Threat or a Tool?

            Technology has majorly impacted our society, both bad and good. It has sped up daily tasks and quick access to information, but has increased identity theft and decreased privacy. The same holds for Google’s popular app, Waze. This trending app notifies the user of accidents, traffic jams, police locations, and more. The controversial component of this app is the feature “traffic cop”. This feature relays police locations on the field to the user. To many police officers, this feature may be lethal and detrimental. Last Decemeber, Ismaaiyl Brinsley murdered two New York officers, Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu. The murderer used the Waze app to locate the innocent police officers and assassinated them. Others fear, the app can be a tool to avoid policeman. Drunk Drivers and Speeders could avoid Police checkpoints and could cause harm to themselves and others. Even though this app may benefit the public avoid traffic tickets and jams, is this tool worth the risk?

            At first, many citizens would see this app as money and time saver. As the negatives are then shown, many would change their opinion. This app is not worth the risk. As the story illustrates the danger to Policeman, citizens are also at danger. Drunk driving and speeding may resume, by just by a click of a button to avoid a police checkpoint. Criminals may use this as a tool to plan their next crime. These risks are not great enough to deficit the benefits of avoiding traffic tickets and traffic jams. The public needs to help our society by asking Google to take this feature off the app. In the long run, this would be the best option for all, even though it may not seem to be.

The Verge of Nanotechnologies in Medical Treatment is Impending

As the advancement of medical treatments and studies continues, nanotechnology is on the verge of making a breakthrough. Nanotechnology is “the manipulation of matter at a molecular and even atomic scale to penetrate living cells”. The researchers using nanotechnology for medical treatments are especially optimistic for the use of the technology with cancer cells. As the search for a cancer treatment that not only kills the cancer cells, but that also protect the surrounding tissue, nanotechnology seems to be an exceptional option. The treatment would involve a nanostar of gold to attach to the cancer cell, an infrared light would heat up the gold to kill the cancer cell, but protect the healthy cells around it. The issue of toxicity is the next problem. Researchers have been looking at selenium to replace the gold in the treatment. Selenium seems to prevail over gold because selenium is a trace mineral that is present in our diets, unlike gold. Human test have still not taken place, but are on the verge. With more research, the perfection of nanotechnology will be accomplished
             It is amazing to look at the advancement in medical research in the last decade. There have been many improvements that have saved many lives, and it is exciting to see further developments. Nanotechnology could facilitate these further developments. To have a way to cure cancer safely is the ultimate goal. The creativity and ingenuity of these doctors is making this goal a reality. By using selenium creates a healthier and less toxic treatment, nanostars have a larger surface area; the doctors are perfecting this treatment with every improvement and solution like these. These nanotechnologies could surpass the modern treatments and also be used in other medical atrocities in addition to cancer. This technology is not in the distant future, but is being implemented now. Some nanotechnologies are being added to materials that we are currently implanting and using in our body. These include hip implants and catheters. To continue the implementing of nanotechnology into the medical field, there needs to be more studies and testings. As we improve these remedies, nanotechnology could well be the future of medical treatments.

The Fight for Pro-Life Prevails

As the controversy of abortion continues, Kansas is the first state to enforce laws that ban abortion. On April 8, 2015, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback signed a law that may influence pro life in many other states. The law banned the practice of "dismemberment abortion". This common procedure is described as “knowingly dismembering a living unborn child and extracting such unborn child one piece at a time from the uterus through the use of clamps, grasping forceps, tongs, scissors or similar instruments that, through the convergence of two rigid levers, slice, crush or grasp a portion of the unborn child’s body in order to cut or rip it off.” The law prohibits this act unless, "necessary to protect the life or health of the mother,” Even though this law does not ban all forms of abortion, it is a major step for pro-life.

This ban on "dismemberment abortion” is the first step to create a prolife society. The appalling and alarming procedure of "dismemberment abortion" should bother everyone, but still there are supporters of it. Their main argument is that the woman should have the choice and be in control of her body, although this choice murders innocent humans. Murder is considered the worst crime, and should be carried out to all humans. It is not fair to the baby, to have the right to live taken away from her or him. Even if the woman were not fit to have a baby, many families would love to adopt the child. By aborting a child is not helping the child or the woman in any way. After aborting, many women suffer from miscarriages, regret and depression later in life. To continue this practice further would be detrimental to our society in considering itself “civilized”. Hopefully Brownback’s decision to sign the law will influence other states to do the same.
